Batch testing equipment for quality control and assurance

Batch testing helps buyers evaluate the quality, reliability, and performance of the PV modules and inverters produced for a given project. During project construction, a randomly selected subset of products is sent from the factory to PVEL. We screen the equipment for defects and conduct performance and reliability tests.

With batch testing, buyers can identify quality control issues and serial defects quickly. If problems are identified, they can develop a recourse plan while project production takes place.

Field EL imaging to identify latent damage in operating assets

PVEL conducts electroluminescence (EL) imaging in the field to help asset owners, insurers and O&M providers diagnose system underperformance, document claims, and recoup lost revenues.

Our EL images are like X-rays.

They reveal defects, cracks, heat stress, and mismatch in PV modules that are not visible by eye. Unseen PV module damage and defects can reduce system performance and create safety issues that undermine project profitability over time.

Thanks to years of experience and process optimization, PVEL has developed an efficient, streamlined, and cost-effective field EL imaging process that takes place during the daytime while PV modules are installed. We have tested more than 1 GW of damaged solar projects in the field.

When to Use Field EL

To fully assess and quantify damage from force majeure events such as tornadoes, wildfires, hurricanes and other extreme weather events

To document product warranty and insurance claims, including claims for EPC mishandling and improper installation

To diagnose system underperformance issues, including light and elevated temperature-induced degradation (LeTID) and potential-induced degradation (PID)

To record a project’s baseline health before any equipment performance issues or force majeure events occur
